Thank you to the Coalition of Library Advocates for honoring the Friends of the Pawtucket Library with a William E. Reeves Friends Award for 2018 during the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 10th at the RI State House. The award was given in recognition of the Friends' continued support for the Pawtucket Public Library's Literacy Program which offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adult immigrants in collaboration with Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative - RIFLI and Rhode Island Institute for Labor Studies & Research.

Recently, the Friends of the Pawtucket Public Library group has helped to gain funds through a grant program to sustain two courses at the Pawtucket Public Library, Advanced ESL and Transitions to College and Careers. These courses are intended to help immigrants transition from traditional ESL classes into mainstream college or training programs to advance their careers. They are designed to respond to gaps in the continuum of area ESL education.
